Phyu is a fearless entrepreneur and philanthropist, who would probably not describe herself as either.

Being the daughter or relatively wealthy parents within a predominantly Buddhist community in Myanmar comes with a cultural expectation to support those less fortunate than herself in her local area back home.

As a successful accountant living in London, Phyu was always determined that she would fulfil this in her own way and not follow the usual path of sending money back home.

In order to fulfil that expectation, Phyu founded and runs a tea plantation, providing decent and sustainable work not only for her current extended family and community but for generations to come.

New to speaking, she had signed up to give a 1 hour talk at the London Climate Summit 2020 and at the time of our 1st session we had just 1 week to put this together. No pressure there then!

Initially shy about talking about herself, I began by drawing out the relevant parts of Phyu’s own story that give context to her mission, much of which she had dismissed as irrelevant or uninteresting.

The next step was to shape her content to fall in line with the objectives of the event, without compromising her own values or objectives. This included finding a key part of the story to open her presentation and an effective way of bringing her message full circle to make sure she ended her talk in a way that her audience would remember.

Mission accomplished, and her session drew the highest attendance in its category.

Programme followed: Phyu worked with me for 9 months via my On Tap programme for ongoing support over a sustained period of time.

Here’s what a friend of hers said, who heard the initial presentation:

‘I’ve heard Phyu’s story many times but you helped her tell it so beautifully it made me feel really emotional.’
