Living on a tight rope

At the age of 18 and poised ready to embark on an engineering apprenticeship, Tom Henwood woke to find himself in a hospital bed with no memory of how he had got there. He’d actually woken up from an induced coma he’s been put in to help his brain recover from a sudden onset of encephalitis. This left him with uncontrollable epilepsy and spelt the end of his apprenticeship before it had even started followed by a so far unsuccessful bids to find meaningful work. In this episode Tom shares his story of how he’s now on a mission to educate employers about epilepsy using his unique brand of humour and speaking.
